Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure used to examine the inner lining of the large intestine (colon and rectum). A flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the rectum, allowing the physician to detect inflammation, ulcers, polyps, or cancer. It’s commonly used for colon cancer screening and to investigate symptoms such as abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, or chronic diarrhea.

Upper Endoscopy (EGD)

An upper endoscopy, also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), is a procedure that allows doctors to examine the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine. Using a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera, this procedure helps diagnose issues like acid reflux, ulcers, or unexplained abdominal pain.

Polypectomy & Biopsy

A polypectomy is the removal of polyps—abnormal growths of tissue—found during a colonoscopy or endoscopy. These polyps can be benign or potentially precancerous, so removing them helps prevent future complications, including cancer. The procedure is typically quick, safe, and done during the same session as the diagnostic exam. A biopsy involves taking a small sample of tissue from the gastrointestinal tract for laboratory analysis. It is often performed during an endoscopy or colonoscopy when abnormal tissue is seen. This sample helps identify infections, inflammation, or cancerous cells, aiding in accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment planning.
